Navigation keeps GPS active, so it uses more power than most everyday apps. The steps below can reduce consumption, although GPS use cannot be removed completely.

Go Guide app

In the app

  1. Reduce screen use. Keep the screen off when you do not need the map, lower brightness and shorten Auto-Lock. Avoid running music or other demanding apps at the same time.
  2. Limit background activity. Enable iPhone Low Power Mode, pause unnecessary account syncing, and turn off Wi-Fi or mobile data when it is not needed. Do not force-close Go Guide while navigation or recording is active.
  3. Use offline navigation with Premium. Before leaving, open Profile → Download Routes by Region and download the required region and routes. Confirm the download works before losing signal.
  4. After downloading everything, Flight Mode can reduce connection use while GPS remains available.

    Attention

While Flight Mode is enabled, automatic replanning, planning or editing routes, Live Share and any feature requiring an internet connection will not be available.

  5. Protect location accuracy. Keep Location Services and Precise Location enabled for Go Guide. Carry the phone where it has a clear view of the sky.
  6. Plan for long activity. Fully charge the phone before setting off. For a long or multi-day route, a power bank is the most reliable way to keep navigation running.

On the web

  1. The website does not perform live GPS navigation, so these battery-saving steps apply to the Go Guide iPhone app.
  2. Use the website before leaving to choose a route, then send it to the app and complete any Premium offline download while connected to Wi-Fi.
