Route overview

About this route

This demanding circuit begins with a relentless climb from the car park up Helvellyn’s steep southern flank, a sustained ascent over rocky ground that quickly gains height. From the summit, views extend across Ullswater, Striding Edge, and the central fells on a clear day. The ridge then continues north over White Side and Raise, staying high above the valley with superb panoramas throughout. The descent is steep and rough, with scree and indistinct paths in places that demand steady footing and careful navigation. This is a serious mountain walk and should only be attempted in calm, dry weather with clear visibility, as rain, ice, or high winds make the terrain hazardous.
