Route overview

About this route

A steep and sustained ascent from Swirls car park up to the summit of Helvellyn, the third-highest peak in the Lake District. This challenging route climbs through rugged fellside with sections of stone steps, exposed rocky ground, and no shelter along the way. Best tackled in clear, settled weather. The summit offers expansive views over Red Tarn, Striding Edge, Glenridding, and the surrounding peaks. A tough climb with serious payoff, especially on a clear day.
