This demanding circuit from Thirlmere begins by climbing past Stybeck Waterfall and following Sticks Pass up to Raise, before continuing along the ridge over Whiteside, Lower Man, and Helvellyn, then south across Nethermost Pike, High Crag, and Dollywaggon Pike. The ridge is high and sustained, with little loss of elevation between summits and superb views across the Helvellyn range throughout. The descent drops steeply to Grisedale Tarn before following Raise Beck down through a series of waterfalls, eventually easing into a gentle return path along the shores of Thirlmere. Expect a long mountain day with steep climbs, rough descents, and exposed ground that demands good fitness, sure footing, and preparation. Sturdy boots, warm and waterproof layers, food, water, and sun protection are essential.
