A short but rewarding walk to the summit of Orrest Head, offering one of the best panoramic views over Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells. This local favourite route climbs gently from Windermere through woodland and open fell with a slightly steeper and uneven section near the top. On clear days, the views stretch as far as Scafell Pike and the Irish Sea. Famously, this was the first Lakeland summit experienced by Alfred Wainwright. This is a perfect introduction to the Lakes. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead near livestock.
