Go Guide includes a collection of tools to help you navigate, record useful information and stay connected while following a route or recording with Track & Go.
Open the activity tools
- Start a planned route or begin a Track & Go activity.
- Open the activity options from the tracking screen.
- Select the tool you want to use.
The available tools can vary depending on whether you are following a planned route, using Track & Go, online or using downloaded offline data.
Check your GPS signal
The GPS badge shows the current quality of your location signal. Tap it to see more information, including the estimated accuracy and when the position was last checked.
- Strong GPS means your location is being reported with high accuracy.
- Good GPS is normally suitable for route and activity tracking.
- Weak GPS means your recorded position may move or become less precise.
- Poor GPS means Go Guide may need to wait for a better location before recording movement.
The badge uses recent GPS readings rather than relying on one unusually accurate result. This provides a more realistic indication when the signal is changing.
Change the map display
Open Map options to adjust the information shown on the map. Available options can include map styles, useful overlays and weather information.
- Use a map style that makes the route easier to see.
- Switch optional overlays on or off.
- Keep the highlighted route visible while changing map layers.
Some map information requires an internet connection unless the area was downloaded beforehand.
Share your live progress
- Open the activity tools.
- Select Live Share.
- Tap the share button and choose a contact or app.
- Send the generated Go Guide tracking link.
The recipient can use the link to follow your available live progress while the activity is running.
Live sharing requires a data connection. If your connection is interrupted, updates may resume when connectivity returns.
Record something useful
Press and hold anywhere on the map to add useful information at that location.
- Press and hold the position on the map where you found the item or hazard.
- Choose the type of item you want to add.
- Complete the available details and submit it.
The item is placed at the selected map position, so you can add something nearby without needing to stand directly beside it.
Depending on the item type, you may be able to review or delete it during the same activity.
Only submit accurate, useful information. Do not add private information or report hazards that you have not observed.
Share your position in an emergency
The Emergency SOS tool helps you prepare and share information about your current position.
- Open the activity tools.
- Select Emergency SOS.
- Review the location shown.
- Use the available share option to send the information to someone you trust.
Emergency SOS is not a replacement for contacting the emergency services. If there is immediate danger, call the appropriate emergency number as soon as it is safe to do so.
Pause an activity
Pause tracking when you stop for a break and do not want that time included as active time.
- Tap Pause to stop active recording.
- Turn guidance is hidden while the activity is paused.
- Tap Resume when you are ready to continue.
- Your completed pause time is shown in the final activity summary.
If Go Guide detects that you have stopped moving for several minutes, it may ask whether you want to pause the activity.
Finish and review
- Tap Finish when your activity is complete.
- Review the recorded distance, elevation gain, time and activity type.
- Confirm that you are finished.
- Review the activity summary and close it to return to Go Guide.
If the recorded distance is still 0.0 km, Go Guide will warn that no activity appears to have been completed.
- Select Keep recording to return to the activity.
- Select End without saving to discard it and close the tracking screen.
An activity ended without saving will not appear in your activity history or be exported to Apple Health.
