Route map layers let you change the information displayed around or directly on a route. They can help you examine the terrain, nearby places, weather and surrounding landscape before setting out.
Open map layers
- Open a route and expand the route map.
- Tap Layers.
- Turn the required layers on or off.
- Close the panel to return to the map.
Available route layers
- Surface types: colours the route according to mapped ground material. This is a Premium feature.
- POIs: shows places and landmarks located along or near the route.
- Peaks: shows nearby summits and Wainwrights. Tap a marker to open its details.
- Gradient & steepness: colours the route according to estimated incline. This is a Premium feature.
- Temperature markers: shows estimated temperatures at important points such as the start, highest point and finish. This is a Premium feature.
Surface Types and Gradient & Steepness cannot colour the route simultaneously. Turning one on switches the other off.
Choose the map type
- Standard: shows the normal outdoor map with paths, roads and mapped features.
- Satellite: uses aerial imagery with mapped labels and route information overlaid.
Use the interactive map
- Drag to move around the map and pinch to zoom.
- Tap the expand control to fit the complete route on screen.
- Tap a peak or point-of-interest marker to view more information.
- Drag across the elevation profile to find the corresponding position on the map.
- Tap 3D to open the route preview.
