Emergency SOS helps you quickly copy or share your latest available location while following a planned route or recording an activity with Track & Go.
Open Emergency SOS
- Open the activity tools while following a route or using Track & Go.
- Find the safety section.
- Select Emergency SOS.
- Wait for Go Guide to display your current coordinates.
Emergency SOS uses the latest location available from your device. If Go Guide is still waiting for a location, the copy and share buttons remain unavailable.
Check the displayed location
Your latitude and longitude are displayed as two numbers. These coordinates identify your latest available position and can be given to someone who needs to locate you.
Before sharing them:
- Check the GPS quality shown by Go Guide.
- Make sure the map position appears close to your real location.
- Allow time for GPS to improve if the signal is weak or poor.
- If possible, also describe a nearby path, landmark, road or direction of travel.
Buildings, woodland, steep valleys and poor weather can reduce location accuracy.
Copy your location
- Open Emergency SOS.
- Wait for your coordinates to appear.
- Tap Copy coordinates.
- Paste them into a message, note or another app.
After copying, the button changes to confirm that the coordinates were copied successfully.
Send your position to someone
- Open Emergency SOS.
- Check the displayed coordinates.
- Tap Share my location.
- Choose a trusted contact or sharing app.
- Review the message before sending it.
The shared message says that you may need assistance and includes:
- Your current latitude and longitude.
- An Apple Maps link pointing to those coordinates.
The location is a snapshot of the latest position available when Emergency SOS was opened. It is not continuous live tracking.
Using Emergency SOS with a poor signal
GPS and mobile connectivity are different. Your phone may be able to calculate coordinates even when mobile data is weak.
- Copy the coordinates if a sharing app cannot send immediately.
- Try SMS or another communication method available on your device.
- A map link may require an internet connection when the recipient opens it.
- Move to a safer open area only if it is safe to do so.
- Do not put yourself at greater risk while trying to improve the signal.
Help someone understand your situation
Coordinates are useful, but additional information can make it easier for someone to help. If possible, include:
- What has happened and what assistance is needed.
- The number of people involved.
- Any injuries or immediate hazards.
- Your planned route or direction of travel.
- A nearby landmark, path name, road, summit or crossing.
- Your remaining phone battery.
- Whether you intend to remain where you are.
