Go Guide can estimate how much of a route may have mobile signal. This helps you identify routes where reception could be unreliable and prepare before setting out.

Find the mobile signal estimate

  1. Open the route you want to explore.
  2. Scroll to Know before you go.
  3. Find Mobile signal along this route.

The mobile signal estimate is a Go Guide Premium feature.

Read the signal summary

Go Guide displays one of the following summaries:

  • Signal is likely for most of this route: nearby mobile cells are estimated to cover at least 75% of the route.
  • Signal may come and go: estimated coverage is between 40% and 74% of the route.
  • Expect limited signal: some nearby mobile cells were found, but estimated coverage is below 40%.
  • Little or No Coverage: no suitable nearby mobile-cell information was found.
  • No estimate available: Go Guide could not retrieve or calculate connectivity information for the route.

Understand the percentage

The percentage is an estimate of how much of the route may be within range of a reported mobile cell. The coloured meter provides a visual summary of that estimate.

For example, an estimate of 68% suggests that mobile signal may be available along roughly two-thirds of the route. It does not identify exactly where reception will be lost or restored.

Nearby cells and networks

The card also shows the number of nearby cells and networks found during the analysis:

  • Nearby cells are reported 4G or 5G mobile installations found near sampled points along the route.
  • Networks is the number of different network identifiers represented by those cells.

These figures provide context for the estimate. A nearby cell does not guarantee that your phone or mobile provider can connect to it.

Use the estimate when planning

If the route shows mixed or limited signal:

  • Download the route and offline map before leaving reliable internet access.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
  • Do not rely on live sharing or internet-based messages working throughout the route.
  • Save any important route details, contact information and travel arrangements before setting out.
  • Carry sufficient battery power and consider a portable charger for longer walks.
