Report a hazard on the map

Select the hazard location

1. Open the map while following a route or using Track & Go.
2. Find the location of the hazard on the map.
3. Press and hold that position until the add-to-map menu appears.
4. Select Hazard.

The report will use the position you selected on the map. You do not need to be standing directly beside the hazard, but you should place the marker as accurately as possible.

Choose the type of hazard

Select the option that best describes the problem:

• Blocked path
• Fallen tree
• Flooding
• Landslide
• Damaged surface
• Unsafe crossing
• Livestock
• Other

If none of the available options is an exact match, select Other and explain the issue in the details field.

Tell us how serious it is

Choose a severity that reflects the likely effect on someone approaching the hazard:

• Low — a minor issue that most people can pass safely.
• Moderate — extra care may be needed or progress may be more difficult.
• High — the route may be difficult or unsafe for some people to pass.
• Dangerous — there may be an immediate or significant safety risk.

Use your best judgement and avoid overstating the risk. Conditions can affect different users in different ways.

Add useful details

A description is required before the report can be submitted. Briefly explain:

• What the hazard is.
• Where it is in relation to the path, crossing or nearby landmark.
• Whether the route is completely blocked or still passable.
• Anything walkers, runners or cyclists should know.
• Whether there appears to be a safe alternative around it.

Keep the description factual and avoid including personal or private information.

Help us review the report

You can optionally add a photo of the hazard. A clear image can help Go Guide understand the problem and review the report more quickly.

• Photograph the hazard itself rather than nearby people.
• Make sure the image clearly shows the path or affected area.
• Do not put yourself at risk to take a photograph.
• Avoid including faces, vehicle registrations or other personal information.

Send the hazard to Go Guide

1. Review the selected location, hazard type and severity.
2. Check that your description is clear and accurate.
3. Add a photo if one is available.
4. Tap Submit hazard report.

An internet connection is required to submit the report. After a successful submission, a red hazard marker appears at the selected position on your map.

Hazard reports are reviewed before they are published for other Go Guide users.

Correct a report submitted by mistake

After submitting a hazard, tap its red marker on the map to review it. If the report was placed incorrectly or submitted by mistake, use the available delete option during the activity.

Deleting a submitted hazard removes your report rather than marking the real-world hazard as resolved.
